紫色布
圣经中的器物
紫色布是一种紫红色的布料，用几种天然材料进行染色。染料的主要来源是骨螺。另一个来源（希伯来文词语的词根是tla‘）是一种小蠕虫。染色后可能会得到多种颜色，从深红色到紫色到蓝色。（参染料 (dye)。）
用途
紫色染料的原材料相对有限，并且染色工艺比较复杂，因此紫色布料非常昂贵，只有君王和最富有的家族才能使用。随着时间的推移，这种颜色逐渐与王室联系起来。不过，一直到圣经时期过去几个世纪之后，才有实际立法禁止王室以外的人穿紫色衣服。
