Meanings

  1. to judge, to pass judgment, to vindicate, to rule

Action by which someone gives a verdict on a case or person in a dispute and ensures that the verdict is implemented, which, ideally, results in relief for the innocent and punishment for the guilty; this can only be done by someone in authority, such as a judge or ruler or even God himself

    Examples

Ezra 7:25 “And you, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God which is in your hand, appoint magistrates and judges so that they may judge all the people who are in the province beyond the Euphrates River, that is, all those who know the laws of your God; and you may teach anyone who is ignorant of them.

How it’s used

Every occurrence, grouped by the words it is grammatically related to.

When two words share a role, as in “Paul and Barnabas said”, the verse appears under each, so a section’s counts can add up to more than the number of occurrences.
