This impersonal verb affirms the existence of something, used of Paul's rebuke that there ought to be someone wise enough among the Corinthians to decide disputes — "that there is not among you anyone wise who will be able to decide between his brothers and sisters" (1 Corinthians 6:5), of his declaration that no distinction of ethnicity, status, or sex remains in Christ — "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female" (Galatians 3:28), of the same truth stated to the Colossians — "there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised" (Colossians 3:11), and of James' declaration that no variation or shifting shadow exists with the Father of lights — "with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow" (James 1:17).

equivalent to ἔνι, the accent being thrown back, same as ἐν, used adverbially (Winer's Grammar, § 50, 7 N. 2) for ἐνεστι, is in, is among, has place, is present (Homer, Odyssey 21, 218; Thucydides 2, 40): Gal 3:28 (three times); Col 3:11; Jas 1:17; with addition of ἐν ὑμῖν, 1 Cor 6:5 (where Rec. ἐστιν); in secular authors from Sophocles and Thucydides on very often, it can be, is possible, is lawful; (here some would place James, the passage cited). The opinion of many (e. g. Fritzsche on Mark, p. 642; Meyer on Galatians, the passage cited; cf. Ellicott ibid.) that ἔνι is a contracted form for ἐνεστι is opposed by the like use of παρά, ἀνά, which can hardly be supposed to be contracted from πάρεστι, ἀνεστι; cf. Krüger, § 9, 11, 4; Winers Grammar, 80 (77); Göttling, Lehre v., Accent etc., p. 380; (Chandler § 917f; Buttmann, 72 (64); Lob. Path. Element. ii. 315).
