바퀴

바퀴는 고리나 둥근 원판으로, 그 중심, 곧 바퀴통에 막대(축)가 꿰어져 있었다. 바퀴는 나무로 만들었고 때로는 일부를 금속으로 만들기도 하였다. 바퀴는 통나무 하나로 된 것(수레, 짐수레의 그림을 보라)도 있었고, 가운데의 바퀴통이 여러 개의 바퀴살로 바깥 테에 연결된 것도 있었다. 축은 보통 수레의 한쪽에서 다른 쪽까지 뻗어 있었고, 축의 양 끝에 바퀴가 하나씩 달려 있었다.
