1. who, which, what? the Sept. τίς for מִי, τί for מָה;

b. used alone or Substantively: in a direct question, τίς ὑπέδειξεν ὑμῖν φυγεῖν; Mt 3:7; Lk 3:7; Rev 18:18, etc.; τίνος, Mt 22:20, Mt 22:28; Mk 12:10; τίνι, Lk 13:18; τινα, Jn 18:4, Jn 18:7; τί θέλετε μοι δοῦναι; Mt 26:15; τί in an indirect question, followed by the indicative, Mt 6:3; Jn 13:12; 1 Cor 14:16; Rev 2:7, Rev 2:11, Rev 2:17, and very often; followed by the aorist subjunctive, Mt 6:25; Lk 12:11, etc.; followed by the optative with ἄν, Lk 1:62; Lk 6:11, etc. Emphatic words get prominence by being placed before the pronoun (Buttmann, § 151, 16): ὑμεῖς δέ τινα με λέγετε εἶναι, Mt 16:15; Mk 8:29; Lk 9:20; καί ἡμεῖς τί ποιήσομεν (or ποιήσωμεν), Lk 3:14; οὗτος δέ τί, Jn 21:21 (cf.
e. β.); add, Jn 1:19; Jn 8:5; Jn 9:17; Acts 19:15; Rom 9:19b (cf. Winer's Grammar, 274 (257)),; Rom 14:4, Rom 14:10; Eph 4:9; Jas 4:12; examples from Greek writings are given in Passow, p. 1908b; (Liddell and Scott, under the word, B. I. 1 b.). c. two questions are blended into one: τίς τί ἄρῃ, what each should take, Mk 15:24; τίς τί διεπραγματεύσατο, Lk 19:15 (not Tr WH); ἐγώ δέ τίς ἤμην δυνατός κωλῦσαι τόν Θεόν; who was I? was I able to withstand God? Fritzsche, Index ad Lucian, dial. deor., p. 164; the same construction occurs in Latin writings; cf. Winer's Grammar, § 41 b. 4 c.); with ἄν added, Lk 9:46.
