To make someone able, to give capability to, to enable, to strengthen, to empower74.6
This verb describes granting someone the strength or ability to act, used of Paul's testimony of thanks to Christ who strengthened him for ministry — "I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service" (1 Timothy 1:12), and of his instruction to the Ephesians to be strengthened in the Lord's might — "be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might" (Ephesians 6:10).
To become able, to become capable74.7
It also describes the resulting state of having become able or capable through such strengthening, used of Saul's increasing strength in proclaiming Christ after his conversion — "But Saul kept increasing in strength and confounding Jews who lived in Damascus" (Acts 9:22), of Abraham's growing strong in faith despite the improbability of God's promise — "he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith" (Romans 4:20), and of Paul's own confidence that he can do all things through the One who strengthens him, "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13).
