酒、葡萄酒
聖經中的器物
葡萄酒是用葡萄汁發酵而成的一種飲料。在以色列地，收穫葡萄的季節從7月初開始，一直持續到夏天結束。經過榨汁（參榨酒池、壓酒池 (wine press)）和發酵的過程，第一批葡萄酒（稱為「新酒」）在9月釀成。儘管不如現代採用巴氏滅菌技術後的儲存年限長，然而在當時，完全發酵的葡萄酒仍然可以存放好幾年。在飲用之前，人們通常會用水稀釋葡萄酒（可稀釋50%甚至更多）。葡萄酒也可以加入蜂蜜等甜味劑來增加甜度。
