고와 갈고리

두 개의 큰 천(세마포 앙장과 염소털 앙장 참조)은 가운데에서 고와 갈고리로 연결되었다. 끈으로 만든 고를 한쪽 큰 천의 한 가장자리를 따라 일정한 간격으로 꿰매 달았다. 다른 큰 천의 가장자리를 따라서는 첫 번째 천의 고와 정확히 마주 보도록 금속 갈고리를 달았다. 갈고리를 고에 끼우면 두 천이 하나의 큰 천이 되었다. 이 방식은 세마포 휘장과 염소털 휘장 모두에 사용되었다.
