- ἀναβαίνω anabaínō · G305 · to come up, to go up, to ascend
- Both verbs express the same core sense of moving or coming up. The rarer of the two is used almost exclusively in this literal sense of ascent, while ἀναβαίνω has a much broader range, extending also to embarking on a ship, plants growing, and mental processes arising. The shared literal sense of ascent constitutes genuine convergence, with ἀναβαίνω simply attested far more frequently and over a wider range of extended senses.
