계단, 층계
성경의 기물
계단은 걸어서 오르내릴 수 있도록 높이를 달리하여 이어 놓은 여러 단이었다. 건물의 한 층과 다른 층을, 또는 한 높이의 땅과 다른 높이의 땅을 이어 주었다. 돌덩이를 놓아 만들거나 흙이나 암반을 깎아 만들었다.
