The Death and Resurrection of Lazarus
1有一個患病的人，名叫拉撒路，住在伯大尼，就是馬利亞和他姐姐馬大的村莊。2這馬利亞就是那用香膏抹主，又用頭髮擦他腳的；患病的拉撒路是他的兄弟。3他姊妹兩個就打發人去見耶穌說，主阿，你所愛的人病了。4耶穌聽見就說，這病不至於死，乃是為神的榮耀，叫神的兒子因此得榮耀。5耶穌素來愛馬大，和他妹子，並拉撒路。6聽見拉撒路病了，就在所居之地，仍住了兩天。7然後對門徒說，我們再往猶太去罷。8門徒說，拉比，猶太人近來要拿石頭打你，你還往那裏去麼。9耶穌回答說，白日不是有十二小時麼。人在白日走路，就不至跌倒，因為看見這世上的光。10若在黑夜走路，就必跌倒，因為他沒有光。11耶穌說了這話，隨後對他們說，我們的朋友拉撒路睡了，我去叫醒他。12門徒說，主阿，他若睡了，就必好了。13耶穌這話是指著他死；說的；他們卻以為是說照常睡了。14耶穌就明明的告訴他們說，拉撒路死了。15我沒有在那裏就歡喜，這是為你們的緣故，好叫你們相信；如今我們可以往他那裏去罷。16多馬，又稱為低土馬，就對那同作門徒的說，我們也去和他同死罷。
1Now a certain man was sick: Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2And it was the Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. 3So the sisters sent word to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.” 4But when Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness is not meant for death, but is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.” 5(Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister, and Lazarus.) 6So when He heard that he was sick, He then stayed two days longer in the place where He was. 7Then after this He said to the disciples, “Let’s go to Judea again.” 8The disciples said to Him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone You, and yet You are going there again?” 9Jesus replied, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks during the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10“But if anyone walks during the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” 11This He said, and after this He said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going so that I may awaken him from sleep.” 12The disciples then said to Him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will come out of it.” 13Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about actual sleep. 14So Jesus then said to them plainly, “Lazarus died, 15and I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe; but let’s go to him.” 16Therefore Thomas, who was called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s also go, so that we may die with Him!”
17耶穌到了，就知道拉撒路在墳墓裏，已經四天了。18伯大尼離耶路撒冷不遠，約有六里路。19有好些猶太人來看馬大和馬利亞，要為他們的兄弟安慰他們。20馬大聽見耶穌來了，就出去迎接他；馬利亞卻仍然坐在家裏。21馬大對耶穌說，主阿，你若早在這裏，我兄弟必不死。22就是現在，我也知道，你無論向神求甚麼，神也必賜給你。23耶穌說，你兄弟必然復活。24馬大說，我知道在末日復活的時候，他必復活。25耶穌對他說，復活在我，生命也在我；信我的人，雖然死了，也必復活；26凡活著信我的人，必永遠不死。你信這話麼。27馬大說，主阿，是的；我信你是基督，是神的兒子，就是那要臨到世界的。
17So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days. 18Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away; 19and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to console them about their brother. 20So then Martha, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet Him, but Mary stayed in the house. 21Martha then said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22“Even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.” 23Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise from the dead.” 24Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.” 25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies, 26and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” 27She said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I have come to believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, and He who comes into the world.”
28馬大說了這話，就回去暗暗的叫他妹子馬利亞說，夫子來了，叫你。29馬利亞聽見了，就急忙起來，到耶穌那裏去。
28When she had said this, she left and called Mary her sister, saying secretly, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” 29And when she heard this, she got up quickly and came to Him.
30那時，耶穌還沒有進村子，仍在馬大迎接他的地方。31那些同馬利亞在家裏安慰他的猶太人，見他急忙起來出去，就跟著他，以為他要往墳墓那裏去哭。32馬利亞到了耶穌那裏，看見他，就俯伏在他腳前，說，主阿，你若早在這裏，我兄弟必不死。33耶穌看見他哭，並看見與他同來的猶太人也哭，就心裏悲歎，又甚憂愁；34便說，你們把他安放在那裏；他們回答說，請主來看。35耶穌哭了。36猶太人就說，你看他愛這人是何等懇切。37其中有人說，他既然開了瞎子的眼睛，豈不能叫這人不死麼。
30Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still at the place where Martha met Him. 31Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw that Mary had gotten up quickly and left, they followed her, thinking that she was going to the tomb to weep there. 32So when Mary came to the place where Jesus was, she saw Him and fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” 33Therefore when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled, 34and He said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.” 35Jesus wept. 36So the Jews were saying, “See how He loved him!” 37But some of them said, “Could this Man, who opened the eyes of the man who was blind, not have also kept this man from dying?”
38耶穌又心裏悲歎，來到墳墓前；那墳墓是個洞，有一塊石頭擋著。39耶穌說，你們把石頭挪開。那死人的姐姐馬大對他說，主阿，他現在必是臭了，因為他死了已經四天了。40耶穌說，我不是對你說過，你若信，就必看見神的榮耀麼。41他們就把石頭挪開；耶穌舉目望天說，父阿，我感謝你，因為你已經聽我。42我也知道，你常聽我，但我說這話，是為周圍站著的眾人，叫他們信是你差了我來。43說了這話，就大聲呼叫說，拉撒路出來。44那死人就出來了，手腳裹著布，臉上包著手巾。耶穌對他們說，解開，叫他走。
38So Jesus, again being deeply moved within, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. 39Jesus said, “Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.” 40Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” 41So they removed the stone. And Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42“But I knew that You always hear Me; nevertheless, because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43And when He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44Out came the man who had died, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
45那些來看馬利亞的猶太人，見了耶穌所作的事，就多有信他的；46但其中也有去見法利賽人的，將耶穌所作的事告訴他們。
45Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary, and saw what He had done, believed in Him. 46But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.
Conspiracy to Kill Jesus
47祭司長和法利賽人聚集公會，說，這人行好些神蹟，我們怎麼辦呢。48若這樣由著他，人人都要信他；羅馬人也要來奪我們的地土，和我們的百姓。49內中有一個人，名叫該亞法，本年作大祭司，對他們說，你們不知道甚麼。50獨不想一個人替百姓死，免得通國滅亡，就是你們的益處。51他這話不是出於自己，是因他本年作大祭司，所以豫言耶穌將要替這一國死。52也不但替這一國死，並要將神四散的子民，都聚集歸一。53從那日起他們就商議要殺耶穌。
47Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council meeting, and they were saying, “What are we doing in regard to the fact that this Man is performing many signs? 48“If we let Him go on like this, all the people will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take over both our place and our nation.” 49But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, 50nor are you taking into account that it is in your best interest that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish instead.” 51Now he did not say this on his own, but as he was high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation; 52and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 53So from that day on they planned together to kill Him.
54所以耶穌不再顯然行在猶太人中間，就離開那裏往靠近曠野的地方去；到了一座城，名叫以法蓮，就在那裏和門徒同住。
54Therefore Jesus no longer continued to walk publicly among the Jews, but went away from there to the region near the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there He stayed with the disciples.
55猶太人的逾越節近了；有許多人從鄉下上耶路撒冷去，要在節前潔淨自己。56他們就尋找耶穌，站在殿裏彼此說，你們的意思如何，他不來過節麼。57那時，祭司長和法利賽人早已吩咐說，若有人知道耶穌在那裏，就要報明，好去拿他。
55Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up to Jerusalem from the country prior to the Passover, in order to purify themselves. 56So they were looking for Jesus, and saying to one another as they stood in the temple area, “What do you think; that He will not come to the feast at all?” 57Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where He was, he was to report it, so that they might arrest Him.
