Jeremiah’s Call and Commission
1便雅悯地亚拿突城的祭司中，希勒家的儿子耶利米的话记在下面。2犹大王亚们的儿子约西亚在位十三年，耶和华的话临到耶利米。3从犹大王约西亚的儿子约雅敬在位的时候，直到犹大王约西亚的儿子西底家在位的末年，就是十一年五月间耶路撒冷人被掳的时候，耶和华的话也常临到耶利米。
1The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, 2to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. 3It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month.
4耶利米说，耶和华的话临到我说：5我未将你造在腹中，我已晓得你；你未出母胎，我已分别你为圣；我已派你作列国的先知。6我就说：主耶和华啊，我不知怎样说，因为我是年幼的。7耶和华对我说：你不要说我是年幼的，因为我差遣你到谁那里去，你都要去；我吩咐你说什么话，你都要说。8你不要惧怕他们，因为我与你同在，要拯救你。这是耶和华说的。9于是耶和华伸手按我的口，对我说：我已将当说的话传给你。10看哪，我今日立你在列邦列国之上，为要施行拔出、拆毁、毁坏、倾覆，又要建立、栽植。
4Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 5“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” 6Then I said, “Oh, Lord GOD!
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because I am a youth.” 7But the LORD said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,
And all that I command you, you shall speak. 8“Do not be afraid of them,
For I am with you to save you,” declares the LORD. 9Then the LORD stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me,
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. 10“See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms,
To root out and to tear down,
To destroy and to overthrow,
To build and to plant.”
And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” 6Then I said, “Oh, Lord GOD!
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because I am a youth.” 7But the LORD said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,
And all that I command you, you shall speak. 8“Do not be afraid of them,
For I am with you to save you,” declares the LORD. 9Then the LORD stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me,
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. 10“See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms,
To root out and to tear down,
To destroy and to overthrow,
To build and to plant.”

11耶和华的话又临到我说：「耶利米，你看见什么？」我说：「我看见一根杏树枝。」12耶和华对我说：「你看得不错；因为我留意保守我的话，使得成就。」
11And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.” 12Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.”
13耶和华的话第二次临到我说：「你看见什么？」我说：「我看见一个烧开的锅，从北而倾。」14耶和华对我说：「必有灾祸从北方发出，临到这地的一切居民。」15耶和华说：「看哪，我要召北方列国的众族；他们要来，各安座位在耶路撒冷的城门口，周围攻击城墙，又要攻击犹大的一切城邑。16至于这民的一切恶，就是离弃我、向别神烧香、跪拜自己手所造的，我要发出我的判语，攻击他们。17所以你当束腰，起来将我所吩咐你的一切话告诉他们；不要因他们惊惶，免得我使你在他们面前惊惶。18看哪，我今日使你成为坚城、铁柱、铜墙，与全地和犹大的君王、首领、祭司，并地上的众民反对。19他们要攻击你，却不能胜你；因为我与你同在，要拯救你。这是耶和华说的。」
13And the word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north.” 14Then the LORD said to me, “Out of the north the evil will be unleashed on all the inhabitants of the land. 15“For, behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD; “and they will come and place, each one of them, his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls around, and against all the cities of Judah. 16“And I will pronounce My judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, since they have abandoned Me and have offered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands. 17“Now, belt your garment around your waist and arise, and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed before them, or I will make you dismayed before them. 18“Now behold, I have made you today like a fortified city and like a pillar of iron and walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its leaders, to its priests, and to the people of the land. 19“And they will fight against you but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to save you,” declares the LORD.
