1「你出去与仇敌争战的时候，看见马匹、车辆，并有比你多的人民，不要怕他们，因为领你出埃及地的耶和华—你神与你同在。2你们将要上阵的时候，祭司要到百姓面前宣告3说：『以色列人哪，你们当听，你们今日将要与仇敌争战，不要胆怯，不要惧怕战兢，也不要因他们惊恐；4因为耶和华—你们的神与你们同去，要为你们与仇敌争战，拯救你们。』5官长也要对百姓宣告说：『谁建造房屋，尚未奉献，他可以回家去，恐怕他阵亡，别人去奉献。6谁种葡萄园，尚未用所结的果子，他可以回家去，恐怕他阵亡，别人去用。7谁聘定了妻，尚未迎娶，他可以回家去，恐怕他阵亡，别人去娶。』8官长又要对百姓宣告说：『谁惧怕胆怯，他可以回家去，恐怕他弟兄的心消化，和他一样。』9官长对百姓宣告完了，就当派军长率领他们。
1“When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses, chariots, and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you. 2“When you are approaching the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people. 3“He shall say to them, ‘Hear, Israel, you are approaching the battle against your enemies today. Do not be fainthearted. Do not be afraid, or panic, or be terrified by them, 4for the LORD your God is the One who is going with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’ 5“The officers also shall speak to the people, saying, ‘Who is the man that has built a new house but has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would dedicate it. 6‘And who is the man that has planted a vineyard but has not put it to use? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would put it to use. 7‘And who is the man that is betrothed to a woman and has not married her? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would marry her.’ 8“Then the officers shall speak further to the people and say, ‘Who is the man that is afraid and fainthearted? Let him go and return to his house, so that he does not make his brothers’ hearts melt like his heart!’ 9“And when the officers have finished speaking to the people, they shall appoint commanders of armies at the head of the people.
10「你临近一座城、要攻打的时候，先要对城里的民宣告和睦的话。11他们若以和睦的话回答你，给你开了城，城里所有的人都要给你效劳，服事你；12若不肯与你和好，反要与你打仗，你就要围困那城。13耶和华—你的神把城交付你手，你就要用刀杀尽这城的男丁。14惟有妇女、孩子、牲畜，和城内一切的财物，你可以取为自己的掠物。耶和华—你神把你仇敌的财物赐给你，你可以吃用。15离你甚远的各城，不是这些国民的城，你都要这样待他。16但这些国民的城，耶和华—你神既赐你为业，其中凡有气息的，一个不可存留；17只要照耶和华—你神所吩咐的将这赫人、亚摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人都灭绝净尽，18免得他们教导你们学习一切可憎恶的事，就是他们向自己神所行的，以致你们得罪耶和华—你们的神。
10“When you approach a city to fight against it, you shall offer it terms of peace. 11“And if it agrees to make peace with you and opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall become your forced labor and serve you. 12“However, if it does not make peace with you, but makes war against you, then you shall besiege it. 13“When the LORD your God gives it into your hand, you shall strike all the men in it with the edge of the sword. 14“However, the women, the children, the animals, and everything that is in the city, all of its spoils, you shall take as plunder for yourself; and you shall use the spoils of your enemies which the LORD your God has given you. 15“This is what you shall do to all the cities that are very far from you, which are not of the cities of these nations nearby. 16“Only in the cities of these peoples that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, you shall not leave anything that breathes alive. 17“Instead, you shall utterly destroy them, the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite and the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, just as the LORD your God has commanded you, 18so that they will not teach you to do all the same detestable practices of theirs which they have done for their gods, by which you would sin against the LORD your God.
19「你若许久围困、攻打所要取的一座城，就不可举斧子砍坏树木；因为你可以吃那树上的果子，不可砍伐。田间的树木岂是人，叫你糟蹋吗？20惟独你所知道不是结果子的树木可以毁坏、砍伐，用以修筑营垒，攻击那与你打仗的城，直到攻塌了。」
19“When you besiege a city for a long time, to make war against it in order to capture it, you shall not destroy its trees by swinging an axe against them; for you may eat from them, so you shall not cut them down. For is the tree of the field a human, that it should be besieged by you? 20“Only the trees that you know are not fruit trees you shall destroy and cut down, so that you may construct siegeworks against the city that is making war against you until it falls.
