Paul’s Defense before the Jews
1諸位父兄請聽，我現在對你們分訴。
1“Brothers and fathers, hear my defense which I now offer to you.”
2眾人聽他說的是希伯來話，就更加安靜了。
2And when they heard that he was addressing them in the Hebrew dialect, they became even more quiet; and he said,
3保羅說，我原是猶太人，生在基利家的大數，長在這城裏，在迦瑪列門下，按著我們祖宗嚴緊的律法受教，熱心事奉神，像你們眾人今日一樣。4我也曾逼迫奉這 道的人，直到死地，無論男女都鎖拿下監。5這是大祭司和眾長老都可以給我作見證的；我又領了他們達與弟兄的書信，往大馬色去，要把在那裏奉這道的人鎖拿，帶到耶路撒冷受刑。
3“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated under Gamaliel, strictly according to the Law of our fathers, being zealous for God just as you all are today. 4“I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and putting both men and women into prisons, 5as also the high priest and all the Council of the elders can testify. From them I also received letters to the brothers, and started off for Damascus in order to bring even those who were there to Jerusalem as prisoners to be punished.
6我將到大馬色，正走的時候，約在晌午，忽然從天上發大光，四面照著我。7我就仆倒在地，聽見有聲音對我說，掃羅，掃羅，你為甚麼逼迫我。8我回答說，主阿，你是誰。他說，我就是你所逼迫的拿撒勒人耶穌。9與我同行的人，看見了那光，卻沒有聽明那位對我說話的聲音。10我說，主阿，我當作甚麼。主說，起來，進大馬色去，在那裏要將所派你作的一切事，告訴你。11我因那光的榮耀，不能看見，同行的人，就拉著我手進了大馬色。
6“But it happened that as I was on my way, approaching Damascus at about noon, a very bright light suddenly flashed from heaven all around me, 7and I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ 8“And I answered, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said to me, ‘I am Jesus the Nazarene, whom you are persecuting.’ 9“And those who were with me saw the light, but did not understand the voice of the One who was speaking to me. 10“And I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, ‘Get up and go on into Damascus, and there you will be told about everything that has been appointed for you to do.’ 11“But since I could not see because of the brightness of that light, I came into Damascus being led by the hand by those who were with me.
12那裏有一個人，名叫亞拿尼亞，按著律法是虔誠人，為一切住在那裏的猶太人所稱讚。13他來見我，站在旁邊，對我說，兄弟掃羅，你可以看見；我當時往上一看，就看見了他。14他 又說，我們祖宗的神，揀選了你，叫你明白他的旨意，又得見那義者，聽他口中所出的聲音。15因為你要將所看見的，所聽見的，對著萬人為他作見證。16現在你為甚麼耽延呢，起來，求告他的名受洗，洗去你的罪。
12“Now a certain Ananias, a man who was devout by the standard of the Law and well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, 13came to me, and standing nearby he said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ And at that very moment I looked up at him. 14“And he said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed you to know His will and to see the Righteous One and to hear a message from His mouth. 15‘For you will be a witness for Him to all people of what you have seen and heard. 16‘Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins by calling on His name.’
17後來我回到耶路撒冷，在殿裏禱告的時候，魂遊象外，18看見主向我說，你趕緊的離開耶路撒冷，不可遲延，因你為我作的見證，這裏的人，必不領受。19我就說，主阿，他們知道我從前把信你的人，收在監裏，又在各會堂裏鞭打他們；20並且你的見證人司提反，被害流血的時候，我也站在旁邊歡喜；又看守害死他之人的 衣裳。21主向我說，你去罷；我要差你遠遠的往外邦人那裏去。
17“It happened when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, that I fell into a trance, 18and I saw Him saying to me, ‘Hurry and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about Me.’ 19“And I said, ‘Lord, they themselves understand that in one synagogue after another I used to imprison and beat those who believed in You. 20‘And when the blood of Your witness Stephen was being shed, I also was standing nearby and approving, and watching over the cloaks of those who were killing him.’ 21“And He said to me, ‘Go! For I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”
22眾人聽他說到這句話，就高聲說，這樣的人，從世上除掉他罷；他是不當活著的。23眾人喧嚷，摔掉衣裳，把塵土向空中揚起來。24千夫長就吩咐將保羅帶進營樓去，叫人用鞭子拷問他，要知道他們向他這樣喧嚷，是為甚麼緣故。25剛用皮條捆上，保羅對旁邊站著的百夫長說，人是羅馬人，又沒有定罪，你們就鞭打他，有這個例麼。26百夫長聽見這話，就去見千夫長，告訴他說，你要作甚麼；這人是 羅馬人。27千夫長就來問保羅說，你告訴我，你是 羅馬人麼。保羅說，是。28千夫長說，我用許多銀子，纔入了羅馬的民籍。保羅說，我生來就是。29於是那些要拷問保羅的人，就離開他去了。千夫長既知道他是羅馬人，又因為捆綁了他，也害怕了。
22They listened to him up to this statement, and then they raised their voices and said, “Away with such a man from the earth, for he should not be allowed to live!” 23And as they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and tossing dust into the air, 24the commander ordered that he be brought into the barracks, saying that he was to be interrogated by flogging so that he would find out the reason why they were shouting against him that way. 25But when they stretched him out with straps, Paul said to the centurion who was standing by, “Is it lawful for you to flog a man who is a Roman and uncondemned?” 26When the centurion heard this, he went to the commander and told him, saying, “What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman.” 27The commander came and said to Paul, “Tell me, are you a Roman?” And he said, “Yes.” 28The commander answered, “I acquired this citizenship for a large sum of money.” And Paul said, “But I was actually born a citizen.” 29Therefore, those who were about to interrogate him immediately backed away from him; and the commander also was afraid when he found out that he was a Roman, and because he had put him in chains.
30第二天，千夫長為要知道猶太人控告保羅的實情，便解開他，吩咐祭司長和全公會的人，都聚集，將保羅帶下來，叫他站在他們面前。
30Now on the next day, wanting to know for certain why Paul had been accused by the Jews, he released him and ordered the chief priests and all the Council to assemble, and he brought Paul down and placed him before them.
