1作長老的寫信給親愛的該猶，就是我誠心所愛的。
1The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2親愛的兄弟阿，我願你凡事興盛，身體健壯，正如你的靈魂興盛一樣。3有弟兄來證明你心裏存的真理，正如你按真理而行，我就甚喜樂。4我聽見我的兒女們按真理而行，我的喜樂就沒有比這個大的。
2Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. 3For I was overjoyed when brothers came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth. 4I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.
5親愛的兄弟阿，凡你向作客旅之弟兄所行的，都是忠心的；6他們在教會面前證明了你的愛；你若配得過神，幫助他們往前行，這就好了；7因他們是為主的名原文作那名出外，對於外邦人一無所取。8所以我們應該接待這樣的人，叫我們與他們一同為真理作工。
5Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brothers and sisters, and especially when they are strangers; 6and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. 7For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. 8Therefore we ought to support such people, so that we may prove to be fellow workers with the truth.
9我曾略略的寫信給教會；但那在教會中好為首的丟特腓不接待我們。10所以我若去，必要題說他所行的事，就是他用惡言妄論我們；還不以此為足，他自己不接待弟兄，有人願意接待，他也禁止，並且將接待弟兄的人趕出教會。
9I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say. 10For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with malicious words; and not satisfied with this, he himself does not receive the brothers either, and he forbids those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.
11親愛的兄弟阿，不要效法惡，只要效法善。行善的屬乎神；行惡的未曾見過神。12低米丟行善，有眾人給他作見證；又有真理給他作見證；就是我們也給他作見證；你也知道我們的見證是真的。
11Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does what is good is of God; the one who does what is evil has not seen God. 12Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself; and we testify too, and you know that our testimony is true.
13我原有許多事要寫給你，卻不願意用筆墨寫給你；14但盼望快快的見你，我們就當面談論；1:15願你平安。眾位朋友都問你安。請你替我按著姓名問眾位朋友安。
13I had many things to write to you, but I do not want to write to you with pen and ink; 14but I hope to see you shortly, and we will speak face to face.1:15Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
