1Dari Simon Petrus, hamba dan rasul Yesus Kristus, kepada mereka yang bersama-sama dengan kami memperoleh iman oleh karena keadilan Allah dan Juruselamat kita, Yesus Kristus. 2Kasih karunia dan damai sejahtera melimpahi kamu oleh pengenalan akan Allah dan akan Yesus, Tuhan kita. 3Karena kuasa ilahi-Nya telah menganugerahkan kepada kita segala sesuatu yang berguna untuk hidup yang saleh oleh pengenalan kita akan Dia, yang telah memanggil kita oleh kuasa-Nya yang mulia dan ajaib. 4Dengan jalan itu Ia telah menganugerahkan kepada kita janji-janji yang berharga dan yang sangat besar, supaya olehnya kamu boleh mengambil bagian dalam kodrat ilahi, dan luput dari hawa nafsu duniawi yang membinasakan dunia. 5Justru karena itu kamu harus dengan sungguh-sungguh berusaha untuk menambahkan kepada imanmu kebajikan, dan kepada kebajikan pengetahuan, 6dan kepada pengetahuan penguasaan diri, kepada penguasaan diri ketekunan, dan kepada ketekunan kesalehan, 7dan kepada kesalehan kasih akan saudara-saudara, dan kepada kasih akan saudara-saudara kasih akan semua orang. 8Sebab apabila semuanya itu ada padamu dengan berlimpah-limpah, kamu akan dibuatnya menjadi giat dan berhasil dalam pengenalanmu akan Yesus Kristus, Tuhan kita. 9Tetapi barangsiapa tidak memiliki semuanya itu, ia menjadi buta dan picik, karena ia lupa, bahwa dosa-dosanya yang dahulu telah dihapuskan. 10Karena itu, saudara-saudaraku, berusahalah sungguh-sungguh, supaya panggilan dan pilihanmu makin teguh. Sebab jikalau kamu melakukannya, kamu tidak akan pernah tersandung. 11Dengan demikian kepada kamu akan dikaruniakan hak penuh untuk memasuki Kerajaan kekal, yaitu Kerajaan Tuhan dan Juruselamat kita, Yesus Kristus.
1Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: 2Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3for His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4Through these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world on account of lust. 5Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they do not make you useless nor unproductive in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9For the one who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. 10Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choice of you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.

12Karena itu aku senantiasa bermaksud mengingatkan kamu akan semuanya itu, sekalipun kamu telah mengetahuinya dan telah teguh dalam kebenaran yang telah kamu terima. 13Aku menganggap sebagai kewajibanku untuk tetap mengingatkan kamu akan semuanya itu selama aku belum menanggalkan kemah tubuhku ini. 14Sebab aku tahu, bahwa aku akan segera menanggalkan kemah tubuhku ini, sebagaimana yang telah diberitahukan kepadaku oleh Yesus Kristus, Tuhan kita. 15Tetapi aku akan berusaha, supaya juga sesudah kepergianku itu kamu selalu mengingat semuanya itu.
12Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them and have been established in the truth which is present with you. 13I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind.
Eyewitnesses
16Sebab kami tidak mengikuti dongeng-dongeng isapan jempol manusia, ketika kami memberitahukan kepadamu kuasa dan kedatangan Tuhan kita, Yesus Kristus sebagai raja, tetapi kami adalah saksi mata dari kebesaran-Nya. 17Kami menyaksikan, bagaimana Ia menerima kehormatan dan kemuliaan dari Allah Bapa, ketika datang kepada-Nya suara dari Yang Mahamulia, yang mengatakan: "Inilah Anak yang Kukasihi, kepada-Nyalah Aku berkenan." 18Suara itu kami dengar datang dari sorga, ketika kami bersama-sama dengan Dia di atas gunung yang kudus.
16For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a declaration as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory: “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased”— 18and we ourselves heard this declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
19Dengan demikian kami makin diteguhkan oleh firman yang telah disampaikan oleh para nabi. Alangkah baiknya kalau kamu memperhatikannya sama seperti memperhatikan pelita yang bercahaya di tempat yang gelap sampai fajar menyingsing dan bintang timur terbit bersinar di dalam hatimu. 20Yang terutama harus kamu ketahui, ialah bahwa nubuat-nubuat dalam Kitab Suci tidak boleh ditafsirkan menurut kehendak sendiri, 21sebab tidak pernah nubuat dihasilkan oleh kehendak manusia, tetapi oleh dorongan Roh Kudus orang-orang berbicara atas nama Allah.
19And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture becomes a matter of someone’s own interpretation, 21for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
