epithet of people הָעֲנָק בְּנֵי long-necked (tall) men, early giant people about Hebron and in Philistia, Ενακ, Εναχ, Jos 15:14 (JE) = Jdg 1:20, without article Num 13:33 (JE), Deu 9:2; also הָע ׳יְלִדַי Num 13:22, Num 13:28; Jos 15:14 (all J E); called also עֲנָקִים long-necks, Ενακειμ, Jos 14:12, Jos 14:15 (JE), Jos 11:21-22, (D), Deu 2:10-11, Deu 2:21 + Jer 47:5 (read עֲנָקִים for עִמְקָם ᵑ0), and perhaps 1Ch 12:16 (see עֵמֶק near the end); עֲנָקִים בְּנֵי 1Ch 1:28 (ᵐ5 γίγαντες, compare Num 13:33), Num 9:2; עֲנָק later (erroneously) as eponymous ancestor of Anakim Jos 15:13 = עֲנוֺק Jos 21:11 (both P). — See especially MeyZAW i (1881), 139 GFMJdg 1:10. 20 CheEncy.
