Used as a technical term for Jews living outside the Jewish homeland, as of the crowd's puzzled question whether Jesus intends to go teach the Dispersion among the Greeks in John 7:35, and the letters addressed to the twelve tribes of the Dispersion in James 1:1 and to those scattered as strangers in 1 Peter 1:1.
