주상, 거룩한 돌, 기념 돌

주상은 대개 돌 하나로 만든 기둥이었다. 때로는 그 돌이 서 있는 곳에서 일어난 사건을 기념하는 글을 새기기도 했다. 이런 기념물은 돌 하나로 만들 수도 있었고 돌무더기로 만들 수도 있었다.
